Waves of Change: MTT Brings Life Below Water

MTT Shipping recently embarked on a coral planting mission at Pulau Lang Tengah, Terengganu, working hand in hand with marine conservation group Coralku. This meaningful initiative marked a significant step forward in our sustainability journey, focusing on marine restoration and community engagement.

A dedicated team of 16 MTT volunteers set off on a mission to the island’s shores for this hands-on experience. The journey began with a Coral Awareness Talk and Project Briefing by Coralku, which highlighted the critical role of coral reef ecosystems and detailing the coral planting process.

Using coral fragments rescued just days before by the Coralku team, our volunteers planted the fragments onto custom-built frames—each capable of holding up to 25 pieces. Once completed, the frames were carefully deployed to designated reef restoration sites by Coralku’s divers.

The mission continues beyond planting. These coral fragments will be monitored regularly, with biannual reporting to track their growth and survival—ensuring the long-term success of the restoration effort. Often called the rainforests of the sea, coral reefs support 25% of all marine life, protect coastlines, and provide livelihoods for millions. Through this initiative, MTT Shipping is taking steps to support marine biodiversity and nurture greater environmental awareness across our organisation.

Every fragment planted is a promise for the future—one reef at a time.
